Del Rio Preview
A few weeks ago I drove out to the edge of Texas with photographer Sarah Wilson, along the way visiting some of the state’s largest springs and the people who love them.
While we’re pulling together the new and improved Hell’s Oasis I will be sharing some advance glimpses of these people and places (and Sarah’s wonderful photography).
We’ll start with Stanley Arledge, a lifelong Del Rio resident whose property sits on one of the San Felipe Creek springs. Stan has watched his spring steadily drop since the drought began in 2010. Now 20 feet below normal height, the spring’s aquamarine waters are still home to dozens of fish and turtles.
We’re hopeful Stan’s spring will recover. Keep checking back for more previews of our West Texas series, and if you know of a spring we should visit, be in touch!
